This research is dedicated to a comparative analysis of the representation of the phenomenon of child labor in two prominent examples of Iranian social cinema, namely the films "Runner" (Amir Naderi, 1984) and "Sun" (Majid Majidi, 2019). The aim of the research is to examine the narrative, content and social similarities and differences of these works in depicting the issues and challenges of child labor. The study method was descriptive content analysis with a qualitative approach and based on the categorization technique. The statistical population included all scenes of the two films, which were selected based on purposeful sampling, 21 related scenes and analyzed based on coding instructions. The findings show that despite a three-decade time gap, the pattern of representation of child labor in these two works has not changed significantly. The child characters are mainly introduced as hardworking and honest, struggling with problems, but the lack of institutional and social support is prominent in both films. Also, social justice, poverty, exploitation and deprivation of the fundamental rights of free education, security and health were the main themes represented. The results of statistical tests indicate that there is no significant difference between the way in which child labor is faced in the two films, and both works emphasize the persistence of the problem and the ineffectiveness of support structures.
